Get Involved with the Nether Providence Democrats
We’d love to have you join us! Whether you’re new to political volunteering or have been involved for years, there are many ways to contribute to the work of the Nether Providence Democratic Committee.
Join us at one of our committee meetings or take part in one of our many activities. There’s a role for everyone, and you can give however much time works for you.
Our volunteer work is organized around the 4 Cs:
Community — Relationships & Presence
Our committee builds real relationships — with one another and with voters - building trust (even when we disagree!) We are a big tent that welcomes anyone sharing our values and willing to elect and support Democrats. We will work hard, but have fun too - including hosting social gatherings and service together. It also includes keeping people informed: communicating regularly through newsletters, email, or other channels, to building awareness around the issues that matter to us and the community.
Sub-committees: Communications · Young Dems · Elected Officer Coordination
Coordination — Organization, Attendance & Election Day
A strong committee requires active organizational participation. It will take all of us to be successful. This includes regularly attending local meetings, joining sub-committees to share the load, recruiting new members, and running a smooth Election Day; lining up poll workers and poll watchers, coordinating polling places, distributing sample ballots, and making sure voters celebrate going to the polls.
Sub-committees: Communication, Election Day / Poll Operations
Canvassing — Voter Contact
Grassroots politics is won through direct contact. This includes registering new voters (including young people turning 18) and being a hub for local information. The committee also runs door-to-door canvassing, mailers and (maybe) even phone calls/texts, using tools like Votebuilder and the Minivan app to identify supporters, track voter preferences, and make sure those supporters turn out to vote.
Sub-committees: Communication, Canvass & Data Coordination
Candidates — Support, Recruitment & Fundraising
A fundamental purpose of the committee is to recruit, support, promote, and elect Democratic candidates. This includes keeping an eye out for potential local candidates, circulating nominating petitions to get them on the ballot, organizing campaign signs, and distributing candidate literature. It also includes fundraising, with a special focus on local candidates, who often depend most heavily on committee support to run a viable campaign.
